My god, the Chinese racism towards Lou Jing is scary.

http://www.chinasmack.com/stories/shanghai-black-girl-lou-jing-racist-chinese-netizens/

Of course it might help if the country officially recognised themselves as the same species of human as the rest of us, instead of the "superior" erectus descendants the party line claims.

16th Century fashion meets 21st Century glamour - which is not quite as anachronistic as an Irish Henry VIII, but just as gorgeous and swoon-worthy :D

Title: SHARDS
Author: scarimor
Fandom: Xena: Warrior Princess
Category: drama, AU
Rating: R
Warning: violence
Word count: 11499
Completed: 1999

Summary: Written after season 4's The Ides of March and before season 5 aired, so this became AU rather fast. I seem to remember wanting to write a fic that fixed that Callisto's just smacked Xena with her own chakram and the girls are dead on Caesar's crosses thing. But it was 10 years ago so who knows?

Btw, I wrote this as gen, but recently I saw it recc'ed somewhere under the "alt" term which probably means someone interpreted it as femslash. There's a brief threat of non-con, but that ain't meant to be femslash. But you can think of the story as femslash if you like :)

A very happy Solstice to all :)

500 years ago today Henry VIII was crowned. The sunshine king certainly left his mark :/

5000 years ago and more, our Neolithic ancestors celebrated life at the huge wooden henge at Durrington Walls, then took their dead down the Avon to a great stone place of the gone-before: built to respect a glacial furrow aligned with the midsummer sunrise, Stone Henge is still going strong.

I watched all of Firefly and two episodes of House, a couple of American shows. There is, I'm told, an important significance re. the skin colour of the characters (namely Zoe and House) which, my being a mere foreigner, I did not get.

The funny thing is, because I said I wasn't aware of the significance (these subtexts have sailed over this mere mortal's head, apparently), I must come from "another dimension" (LOL!) or am a "white supremicist" (ROFLMAO!)

And, btw, my childhood hero Dayna (points to icon) did not exist. She looks remarkably realistic for a figment of my imagination, doesn't she?

I showed a few friends of various nationalities (inc. US, so it's not just us foreigners ;)) and shades of brown, beige and off-pink the bizarre rants, and the result was a unanimous laugh at the levels of arrogance, ignorance and stupidity on the internet.

(in case anyone's wondering, yes that is a young Josette Simon.)

... the dialogue in Bones is so fast and witty. Consistently faster and funnier than real people's conversations can be. It comes as a bit of a let-down to turn the telly off, go out and talk to friends, family, colleagues, and realise that we can't really hope to match those kinds of conversations when we're sober (and probably only think we're matching them when we're not anyway).

The season premier Yanks in the UK was perfection. No wasted moments, that's what I love. Booth wrestling a Mini while trying to bicker with Brennan. All the swiftly-stated cultural oddities that appeal to both countries for parallel reasons - dental records, no jokes please - lol! The hysterical upper aristocracy cameos, the running motifs of head-butting, the gun and the beer. The easily placated English affront towards FBI pushiness on English soil, and the American surprise at unabashed English sexuality.

I adore all the characters. There isn't one I wouldn't miss. Sweets touches a brain (twice). rofl! I love the inevitable insights they stumble into about each other, like Angela realising that Hogkins is too insecure for a woman like her. Their break-up wasn't a surprise, and yet it was somehow. I will have to take some time to figure out why.

Voting open at Blue Moon Awards. Someone nominated two of my femslash fics under Sam/Janet Drama and Humour. There's some nice art and fiction there to look at - I haven't done much Stargate perusing lately and I've been nicely reminded of the talent around. Vote by 31st August, or just go peruse :D

(these came to mind today after engaging in and then witnessing unrelated but similar conversations)

1. When you're a step behind everyone else, don't think that your different perspective comes from being a step ahead.

2. If the detail of your rhetoric would not be news to six-year-olds, you're probably patronising your adult audience.

3. Take not the piss out of others, lest ye be likewise cathetarized.

(ok, that last one is all mine :D)

I wrote this about Madeleine last November.

The unprecedented climb-down from prominent culprits starts here and here.

This has never happened before. They didn't even bother to go to court, so culpable were they for their lies. Many people spoke out against this vile behaviour at the time. It's a shame it took them so long to take down all their lies from their sites.

What I want to know is this: could they really have been so stupid and gullible to believe their own nonsense, spun from the most obvious stitch-up from Portugal's local plod? Or was it pure, knowing, sadistic, greedy malice?

These are the times I hope there's a Hell: when the Devil lights an oven for the scum who snatched Madeleine, he'll not be short of kindling.
